Salt City Run for the Rocks is a half marathon set to happen on September 25th in Hutchinson. It will largely follow the Martinez trail through Carey Park, then ultimately ending at Hutch Community College. A map of the course can be found right here.

The event comes compliments of Hutch Rec and the Boys and Girls Club of Hutchinson. Hey, we did both of those sites, too!

The site allows those interested to sign up to run or volunteer to help you. It also has a back-end to allow the client to update information as necessary, so check back a lot!

Are You a PowerUp?

According to the new PowerUps site we recently launched, PowerUps are 21-39 year olds who are rural by choice. They are the future of the rural community, and they're using new technology to discuss and plan for the future.

The PowerUps site is our first real foray into building a social media site of sorts. In the site, you can sign up for an account, post blogs, share photos and post events. This means we had to build a front-end that is just as dynamic and comprehensive as the back-end, both of which allow for the addition of content to the site.

We're as proud of the site as we are of its mission and the purpose it serves.

Another bonus of the site: we got to work with the Kansas Sampler ladies again, and LogicMaze hearts the Sampler.

Here’s the Definitition of “Cinderella Man” – One that unexpectedly achieves recognition or success after a period of obscurity and neglect. My favorite word in there… “unexpectedly”. In my opinion: It’s NOT unexpected if there was effort, hard work, lots of hours and energy put into it.

Redesign of Hutchinson Recreation Commission

The team at LogicMaze worked closely with Hutchinson Recreation Commission to redesign their website. With a good balance of graphics, tied into the existing color scheme and branding, much thought was put into the aesthetics of the website as well as the traffic received to the website. Logicmaze was able to accomplish a new design for Hutchinson Recreation Commission as well as focus on how to funnel the appropriate traffic to the correct destination quickly.

During the design and development phase, Logicmaze proposed designs and navigation to get users to the information that they wanted. We researched the existing website traffic and designed the site to give users the information that they are looking for quickly.

LogicMaze had the pleasure of designing and programming the new Hutchinson High School Salthawk’s website. In this project we pushed a new technology known as Light boxes. These light boxes remove the need of having multiple windows or tabs to view pictures and other content. Check it out on the photo gallery and roster.

Also on this site we created a system to allow a listing of alumni. Alumni can sign up on the site if they wish to be listed; of course it has to be confirmed before it is listed publicly on the website.

The Salthawks have been on a record breaking streak and our looking to add their 7^th Consecutive State Championship in this upcoming season.

Forker, Suter, & Rose Admin Panel

We are currently working with Law Firm Forker, Suter, and Rose on their website to advertise their services on the World Wide Web. We created an fancy admin panel for them to be able to add a list of Attorneys, be able to post legal updates, created a Frequently Asked Question System, created a section to where they can control there 4 featured services on the home page, and created the ability to add as many pages they wanted to their current sections.

The legal updates are displayed in a fancy news ticker that lists the top 4 Legal Updates Headlines. The Frequently Asked Questions system creates a page that will List all the questions first as links to link down to their answers on their page. Also the Bios section is completely customizable, they can upload a photo of the attorney and edit the bio in anyway they wish.

Born and raised in Lyons, Kansas I thought I would pack my bags and head east after I graduated high school. My extreme destination towards the east coast lasted a good thirty miles, landing me in McPherson…where I then ended up staying all four years for college. So, as I was on my last semester before graduating I decided I wanted to officially make my big move and "get out of here." This time I decided to head south. Ironically, I made it thirty miles once again. Found Logicmaze. And…couldn’t be more grateful! Within the last three days of work I have met some of the wittiest, most down to earth people and I LOVE it. I can tell this workplace is going to turn into a second little family for me, with my own family only thirty minutes away. What more could I ask for?!? I have been working with Cause for Paws to give them more control over their website, but to keep their current design. We gave them control over everything they needed plus added a system for them to monitor volunteers, memberships, and gift memberships.

Also I set up for them a calendar and RSVP for events.

Cause for Paws, Inc. is committed to ensuring the well being of all cats and dogs, reducing pet overpopulation, building a strong base of animal advocates and supporting the Hutchinson Animal Shelter. (Cause for Paws)

Not So Fast, Tricky McTrickster

I received an email yesterday that seemed very official and legit regarding the transfer of a domain which we manage for a client. To my knowledge, this client had not requested a transfer of their domain from our registrar. That was red flag number one. But sometimes a client will talk to a competing company about taking over hosting/domain management of their site, which is just something that happens in the business world. And sometimes, rather than contact us to let us know what's going on, they will attempt to transfer their domain out of our registrar where we manage it without giving us a heads up, so we can send them the Auth Code and turn off the Domain Protect to allow them to transfer. I guess they don't want to break our hearts, which is commendable, and we sure hate to see them go.

BUT!

More often than not, when we receive an email regarding a domain transfer about which we had no prior knowledge, it's a scam. Take a look at this email I got:

Pretty sneaky, sis.

I Googled the company requesting the Auth Code and got this, via Wikipedia:
"In 2003, the Federal Trade Commission reached a settlement with the company for practices such as transferring domain registrations to their service under the guise of domain renewal, a practice known as domain slamming, and having hidden fees."

That was the second, and final red flag.

What these people are counting on is for the person in charge of managing the domain to be confused and assume that, if they don't comply with the instructions listed, they will lose their domain. The sad part is that it often works. All these folks have to do is send an email that looks official, and they trick people into GIVING them their domains.

Are you ready for the pitch now? While I'm all for folks taking an initiative and grabbing this new medium that is the internet by the horns, there are definitely advantages to allowing the professionals to handle some things. We at LogicMaze get calls about emails clients have received that are nearly identical to this a few times a year, and we've been able to stop companies like Domain Registry of America from stealing a few domains. Because we have dealt with this kind of stuff before. We're happy to keep an eye on things for you and make sure these slimy sleazeballs don't try to trick you out of your property.

Of course, if you want to register your domain yourself, just please please PLEASE make sure you do your homework first.

Have you ever had one of those moments when you're driving down the street on your way home and you see a business and wonder, "How long has THAT been there?". Then you decide to stop in, find out the place offers exactly what you've been looking for, AND they've been in business at that location for almost a decade.

Maybe I'm the only one that happens to, but I doubt it.

Sometimes we're not aware of the possibilities around us - the tools and the talent that may be right around the corner or down the street that enable us to do some amazing things. In the areas of web development and advertising media, we largely see two reasons for this.

Kansas Cottonwood Quilts Redesign

Cottonwood Quilts is a shop located in Hutchinson KS. Cottonwood Quilts is a school and resource center for the art of quilting with products such as Needles, Sewing Supplies, Quilting Supplies, fabrics, The Lint Eater, etc.

“Our mission is to educate, to keep the heritage of quilting alive, to provide quality merchandise and supplies, to give knowledgeable assistance, to promote the art of quilting, and to encourage others to share our passion.” (Cottonwood Quilts)

There website also showcases their several of their in store deals, for their “Material Girl” Discounts and their special Birthday deal.

I had been assigned to create the administrative control panel for the Cottonwood Quilts website. They wanted the ability to update their website from any location, and to be able to update it easily by multiple people without the need of specialized software. Now they can completely manage their own website and create their own pages with our easy to understand content management system.

They can also upload their own images through a specialized file management system.

It has a featured item system that will display products from their Hutch Shops Shopping Cart. They can choose up to 5 items, upload images of those items and activate them to display randomly in the website.

Also they will have complete control of an events management system to control their special events. These events will display until the day of the event has passed.

It's funny sometimes the paths my day takes.
This morning was a fun, fast, high intensity photo shoot at Ferguson Fotography for our new website launch.

This afternoon I worked on our local United Way of Reno County website. They have their annual Agency Allocations Process coming up again very soon, so we helped them prepare for that launch. That project has been my baby for quite some time. We moved their ENTIRE applications process online. Where previously pounds and pounds of paper was used to print multiple copies of data, and the agencies who are already very busy were required to do alot of painstaking work in order to submit their Allocations Process to United Way of Reno County. We have moved the ENTIRE process online. It's easier too on the agencies, because now, instead of filling out the ENTIRE form online every year, they are able to login and update and modify last years data instead of starting from scratch. I just got off the phone with the lovely Tona Turner and chatted with her.

Then changed gears and moved over to another longtime client, Pals Products. We have done some keyword saturation work for them in the past. Janice and Gary Johnson are hard workers and never stop pushing their product online came to us with some new keywords that they wanted to target. We did some evaluations on their site and based on the keywords they wanted us to use, we updated most every page on their website. The quilting business is a big industry, and Pals Products has used their engineering skills and understanding of the quilt industry to market and create much needed products for quilters.

The launch of the Hutchinson Legal Clinic is fairly exciting for me, because it is my first full website & logo design, from start to finish, with Logic Maze. The idea was to keep it as simple as possible. So, the information it has is just a single click away from any page, and easy to navigate.

The purpose of the site is to advertise that they want to bring legal services at a reasonable price to the “working man.”

While I have and will learn a lot about site development, I am continually surprised at the knowledge I gather about our customer’s industries. The project that sticks in my mind as teaching me so much, about an industry I knew nothing, was the Power Plant Equipment website design. Every time I dug into their site development I found myself learning numerous facts about Deaerators and Boilers. For instance, did you know that the job of a Deaerator is to reduce the dissolved oxygen build up in a Boiler to less that 5 parts per billion? I bet not. So if you thought learning all the ins and outs of computers and websites was the learning perk of my job, you’d be mistaken. I enjoy the opportunity to learn all that I can about many industries.

My name is Tim Deffner, and I am the newest member of the Logic Maze Team. I am a graduate of Fort Hays State University, with a Bachelors Degree in Information Networking and Telecommunications, with the emphasis in Web Site Development. After College I came to Hutchinson to work for the Kroger Company as an Intranet Applications Developer for their Convenience Stores, and I recently decided that I needed a change of pace, so I came to Logic Maze.

I have only been here for a few days, and I have enjoyed every second of it, even though I had to get my own workstation running before I could even work ;). I am very excited for the future and to be able lighten the load off the other developers.

Sometimes I don't come across as the reasonably intelligent guy I think I am. There are times when I know I say things that lead my coworkers and friends to wonder whether I've gotten enough sleep or perhaps drank my breakfast out of a Robitussin bottle. I had one of those moments not too long ago, and it just so happens it was about one of our clients.

We had been talking here in the office about the social scene in Hutchinson, things to do, places to go, trouble to make, etc. - when I had one of my moments. I remember thinking out loud that it would be great if there were an office or organization that would set up the cool events in Hutch - public music shows, street fairs, traveling and local art exhibits, etc. I'm really not sure what I was thinking - that maybe these things in Hutch just happened as random occurences? Oh, Dave.

Almost as good as my musing was the dead pan response. We already have that. Here. In Hutchinson. It's called the Hutchinson / Reno Arts & Humanities Council. And by the way, design a website for them, smart guy. They're our new client. (I added the "smart guy", but I think it was implied in the response.)

So I was glad to find out about the HRAH. I thought it was cool that they help to organize a wide variety of events for the public. I was jazzed to learn that they also keep a directory of local artists across a wide range of art forms and media. I liked that they were wanting to display samples of artists' work on their site in an online gallery. And, for when people like me have one of their moments, that they would act as a news source, link to related organizations around the area, and point of contact for any inquiries.

Well, the site is up and running. We managed to get it looking pretty dang cool and working well. Hopefully it will help someone else like me as they're pondering one of those "Wouldn't it be great if we had..." kind of questions. Who knows how long I have until I play the goofball again.

LIVE UNITED - in Reno County

I am so excited about this launch. So excited in fact, that I have come back from "blog vacation" in order to do so.

Our local United Way of Reno County has been a Logicmaze client since 2002. That was back when I was chiseling websites out in stone... OK, not quite that far back. But Logicmaze and United Way of Reno County have been working together for many, many years. Starting when Rob Mackey was at the helm until now with Tona Turner running the local show.

The United Way of Reno County has followed the National theme of "LIVE UNITED". I loved it when Tona told me about their new movement. The words themselves make me want to do SOMETHING. She wanted their new website to make others feel the same way.

Their new website uses local people who LIVE UNITED and shows others how THEY can LIVE UNITED. As you know, I'm not a fan of flash over content, I don't feel like substance can be replaced with flashy, moving things. So we answered the call and have built a place for all the local agencies that are supported by United Way of Reno County a place to communicate. They can log-in to the website, post blog posts, post events, other agencies can comment on a post, and communicate about issues that they see in the community. I am so excited about what it could mean for our community getting all of those good folks together working through ideas on how to help each other.

Creating this website made me ask "How am I "LIVING UNITED"?

Working here at LogicMaze, I find myself having to learn about a lot of things that I generally would know nothing about. Right now, it's steel products compliments of Haven Steel. I'm having to get a little info on all sorts of things from hot forming, hot forging and jargon like "quench and temper." It's mind blowing.

There are even some things that sound kind of scary, like ripper shank and cultivator shank. Turns out these are just things for cultivating needs. But they sound kinda terrifying, don't they?

Skills USA

Tamara, Cody and I were co-chairs and judges at a Skills USA web design contest held at HCC yesterday. It was a lot of fun, and truly an honor to be involved in.

A huge help to us in that endeavor was Marisa Honomichl of the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center. She was nice enough, not only to join us in judging the competition, but to participate in the crazy scheme we cooked up for the project to give to the children. We sincerely appreciate it.

Just in case any rumors get started because of the project we gave the contestants to work on; no, there is NOT an Area 51 display at the Cosmosphere with real alien bodies in it.

That would be pretty cool, though.

I used to have a lot of roommates.

At one point, there were seven of us living in one huge house. It was kind of cool, I got to hang out with my buddies all the time. Surprisingly, nobody killed anybody else. One major problem with the situations was boundaries, though. It seemed like nothing was sacred. My food, my drinks, my special loofah - none were safe from the grubby mitts of my roommates.

The most obvious solution would be to just write on the aforementioned items with a marker. Something to the tune of: "Mitchell's. Don't touch." I did just that, to no avail. I don't want to call my friends stupid or imply that they're illiterate, but ... come on ... seriously? Something about the marker method seemed sort of old hat. My friends were obviously desensitized to it to the point of not even recognizing my written request to not touch my things.

I needed something with more of an air of authority. Evermark Signs to the rescue!

That's more like it. I come home at night with a doggy bag from a restaurant, toss it in the fridge, drive a T-post into it, then clip on one of these bad boys:

Evidently, these Scrapbooking Places are all over the United States, and they are women's answer to boys only fishing trips. You know, the ones where there's a whole lot more story telling and beer drinking than fishing.

Several months back, we at LogicMaze revolutionized how we manage our projects when we started using Basecamp. Since we started using it, it's made all of us more organized and made my job a good deal easier.

Not a day has gone by where anyone in this office has doubted the positive impact Basecamp and Highrise (another product of 37 Signals) have had on our business. And I can't think of any hurtles in project management that the two programs combined couldn't easily help us jump. If there were any insurmountable project management issues for which we couldn't find a solution in Basecamp or Highrise, well there's Backpack and Campfire, which we don't use here, but I'm sure are just as useful.

Last Friday, something we haven't seen in the entire time we've used Basecamp: it went down. Any previous lapse in service has lasted a matter of minutes. 10 minutes of downtime, then you're back up and running with a message at the top of your dashboard explaining what happened. They don't need to do that, but they do. Why not? It only takes a minute to let your clients know what's up when you've got a way to send the message to everyone at once.

So on Friday, Basecamp went down for something like 2 and a half hours. No big deal. Kind of a bummer, but honestly, an excuse to be slightly less productive for a little bit.

As soon as Basecamp was back up and running, 37 Signals posted a message letting everyone know what was up. They also posted a message on their blog.

... we still want to compensate anyone who felt they were negatively affected in their work because of this outage. Please write support(at)37signals.com (and include your application URL) and we’ll get that taken care of.

Pretty classy. For a two-hour outage. We're not talking about being out of commission for an entire day.

Cody emailed them and replied:

I want you guys to tell everyone who actually wants compensation to sit and spin and bcc me on the emails. Ha just kidding, this product has revolutionized our business and if the worst thing that comes from it is we have to play with our remote control helicopters for 2 hours on a Friday then I should be paying you more. (Ok that was just kidding as well, I don't really want to pay you more!!!!!

Downed Lines=Downtime

The entire LogicMaze staff would like to thank all of our friends, family and clients for the amount of understanding we have received over the last few days.

We lost all power to our offices on Tuesday night. Three of our staff members also lost all power to their homes. We moved our equipment to a residence Wednesday morning and almost immediately lost power to that residence. We were able to stay connected by laptop and Alltel broadband card just enough to troubleshoot and keep everyone's websites running. We are completely back up and functional as of this morning (Friday, Dec 14th) but we will probably not be back on schedule with project work until Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Thanks again, and our thoughts are with everyone out there who had a rough go with this weather.

Hi. My name is Dave. I'm a packrat. Sorta.

There are surely worse cases than mine. My home isn't filled with refuse to the point where I have to carve out tunnels from room to room. And I don't have an apartment filled with empty Bud Light cans. But it is true that, for the space I have available to me, I have too much stuff. I'm an American and it seems to come with the territory.
This is linked to my own pet theory as to the true driving force behind the colonization of our fair country. We get it from our ancestors.
Europe was getting pretty crowded (a few good plagues will drive that point home nicely), so people needed to find more room for their crap (*ahem* sorry.... Eurocrap). Rumors had been spreading for awhile of a place where there was a LOT of room to be had on the cheap and whose current inhabitants usually packed pretty light. Next thing you know you've got boatloads of people bringing their stuff here. But I digress.

Let's pretend that instead of just one guy with too much stuff (Okay, it's not useless stuff... it's mostly books, art supplies, and tools, okay. Drop it already.) I am really a corporation which manufactures and sells widgets. But the widget market is a fickle mistress. Depending on whether it's widget season I may sell an incredible amount or hardly any at all. To stay on top of that peak demand I have to continually manufacture widgets year round. But then I have to find a place to store all my widgets until the season rolls around and the orders come flooding in. So my dilemma is - do I build my own widget warehouse (Widget Warehouse will be my next band name, by the way.) or do I rent the space I need. Who could possibly have that much space to suit my needs? And what about when the widget season has ended and my stores of widgets have all been sold? Will I have to continue to pay for storage space I'm not currently using?

*I am a middle child in my family. No sisters just an older and younger brother.

*My grandpa is Jim P. Martinez (first Hispanic mayor of Hutchinson)

*I am currently going to college at HCC for Visual Communications.

*I am a artist, more interested in the graffiti art. The walls in my room are covered in Graffiti.

*I listen to all sorts of music, I am a musician. Currently I am in a project called "A Lifetime Of..." its an electronic/pop/experimental project. In the other bands I have been in such as "Tim and Emilio" we have put out a E.P. and have played plenty of shows in Wichita and Hutchinson. Lifetime Warranty was my first real band we put out a full length CD and music video which can be found on Youtube.

Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce

When the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce sent out a request for proposal, they expressed interest in a more interactive back-end that would allow them to easily control the large amount of content on their site as well as disseminate that information to all of their members. Guess who they chose to help them with this.

... No idea?

THEY CHOSE US!

We now have the task of redesigning their website for improved visual appeal as well as overall functionality. Both of those things just so happen to be our specialty.

This is a huge project for us, both in workload and profile. We couldn't be more ecstatic that the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce has shown their confidence in us being able to tackle it.

Right now, the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce exists in three sites: hutchchamber.com, visithutch.com and hutchecodevo.com. Our goal is to make it easier for members of the Chamber to maintain all three of these sites with an admin panel. We've got designers and programmers chomping at the bit to make this happen.

We can't wait to get started.

Every City, Town and neighborhood in the country is trying to get people to move to their space. Louisville has realized that they don't want everyone in the world to move to their city. Really if 1% of the people that watched these videos checked out the possibilities of moving to Louisville, this campaign would be a huge success.

I love ads that get really close to crossing the PC line but don't create an ad just for that purpose. Remember the Quiznos ads with the little rats? No kidding I have not eaten at Quiznos since!

Scuba Diving

Cody really pulled a fast one on me today. He sold me passes for Kansas scuba diving. Like an idiot, I bought them.
Scuba diving in Cheney lake wasn't that horrible, I suppose. I got a chance to see a lot of catfish and white perch. The downside is that I've got this smell on my that I just can't wash off. It's kind of a cross between a toilet and anything within a five-block radius of Long John Silvers.
The trip actually peaked my interest in scuba diving, though. I've since gone to Adventure Sports in Wichita to buy all sorts of really cool scuba diving equipment so that someday when I get to take a vacation, I can go somewhere worth seeing. Adventure Sports will help me with that part of it too. They specialize in setting up scuba trips.
Anything would be better than Cheney lake.

Hydroseeding

I live in an upstairs apartment, so I don't have any yard to speak of. But my best friend is planning on tilling up his yard and planting new grass before it gets too cold. I've suggested a few times for him to use a hydroseeder from Kincaid Equipment.
I think he's softening up to the idea.
We'll see if I can persuade him and swing his business toward Kincaid Equipment.

Soccer Goals Needed

All the excitement surrounding the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup in China has got me wanting to buy that soccer goal that my daughter has been begging me for.

I have been watching for updates regularly on the team after watching the NIKE Ads, where they brag about "The Greatest Team You've Never Heard Of". They are definitely worth watching, if you can have someone tivo it for you.

We've been clearing some of our property out to set up a mini-soccer field, and mini-football field, depending on which kid wants to use it that day, and we needed a neat way to mark off the field lines. I found this Spray Paint Line Marker at Future Pro. If you are concerned about safety, they have these great Soccer Goal Padding (something I didn't think was necessary right up until my daughter filled in as goalie a couple weeks ago, and dove for a ball, and ran her head right into the soccer goal).

If you are in business or just trying to succeed in life you should really read Seth Godin's blog here. I read a lot of blogs and really feel like post in and post out he is the guy I agree with and learn from the most. Until today... My Google Reader had this post at the top of my marketing folder today and I have to say this is the first time I think Seth is off target. Good Enough is always Good Enough!

Here's my explanation:

It's is about redefining your definition of good enough, not trying to continuously make a project better. Campaigns and Strategies have to be remarkable true, but is remarkable good enough? Well yes, most of the time it is. Creative people are the ultimate example. Creatives can look at a first draft and tear it apart, usually a good idea, unfortunately they can look at they 400th draft and tear apart as well. Sooner or later a plan or strategy has to be "GOOD ENOUGH" and then executed violently. The success of any project just depends on what your definition of "GOOD ENOUGH" is!!

A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week.

Winter Park Vacation

My Motto - Work hard, play hard | That's my motto since "Work like a Farmer, Party like a Rockstar" is already taken.

In late July, my family and some friends spent a long weekend in Winter Park Colorado at a friends condo. We spent a full day at the Winter Park resort doing all of their summer activities, including;

The Alpine Slide
A Giant Maze (fun for adults AND kids)
Mini-Golf
Lunch at the mountain top
Leaps & Bounds Bungee
Hiking
The GyroXtreme
The challenging Rock Wall

Winter Park downtown area has this great park called Hideaway Park. We grabbed some blankets, went to Hernando's Pizza Pub and got some pizza, and took it over to the park. They had local musicians there on Thursday night and we ended up buying the c.d.'s from the group that was playing.

We did some sight seeing on some driving trails that were recommended to us by the owners of the condo. The biggest surprise of the evening came when as we were coming back down the mountain trail, we turned the corner and saw a large moose walk into the middle of the road, turn back to look at us and keep walking. It was one of the coolest things that I had ever seen, and I will post our picture as soon as I get it off our camera.

Our condo that we stayed in was like a Home away from home. The large kitchen allowed for many people to cook at once, and not get into each other's way, and the views looking out the windows were stunning. The 3 bedrooms were all very large and laid out well. We look forward to vacationing in Winter Park with family and friends again, and know that we will be headed to Winter Park Lodge -- Check out their website at www.wplodge.com.

I helped my friend move into a new house over the weekend. Always a good time, believe me.
His new place has a fairly sizeable backyard that would be perfect for all sorts of recreational activities. The only problem is that the grass is all sparse, rough and nasty. I'm trying to convince him that he should contact Kincaid Equipment about a hydroseeder, then we can redo the whole lawn and have it looking good next year. I even offered to help him, despite my lack of knowledge in that area.
Who knows what kind of set up he could have back there with just a little work. Maybe we could get a soccer goal back there.

With that said let's move onto something work related. I hear we have a few new clients since the last time I blogged. At least that's the information that was smuggled to me while i was being held captive by the flying monkeys.

I learned that Future Pro is a supplier of a huge variety of sports equipment and accessories. Good to know. I personally have never needed to purchase bleachers, but I wouldn't mind a nice adjustable basketball goal. Perhaps the Tin Main is up for some one-on-one.

It was also revealed to me that Kincaid Equipment manufactures hydroseeding and straw blowing equipment for landscaping needs. I can't think up a Wizard of OZ related joke here. Let's just leave it at that....

Finally, I learned that Showalter fireworks is the place to go for all things fireworks related. You will be impressed with their professional fireworks shows for weddings, birthdays, etc. Remember it's handy to keep a bucket of water nearby when playing with fireworks or battling wicked witches.

I don't have game. In fact, I can't think of a single sport in which I could say with a straight face "I'm awesome at that" . . . unless it's followed by ". . .on Xbox."
I'll tell you this: if you want to throw down on some Ken Griffey Jr. Major League Baseball on Nintendo 64, well, get ready to lose. Bad.
Despite my proficiency in simulated sports, I think I'll work on maybe getting into some real sports. I'm thinking about setting up an adjustable basketball goal at home, and practicing some of my uber-awesome slam dunks. Like the one where I do a front flip, then a back flip before takin' it to the hoop. You should see it. It's unreal, man.
One minor snag, though; I live in an upstairs apartment.

Or, in my case, get shot by your coworkers. Extreme Crossfire Paintball was nice enough to have the LogicMaze staff and some friends down for a private party session. Having never done it before, I was a little bit worried about the outcome and how badly I was going to embarrass myself. Luckily, the majority of the group was composed of novices, and the ones that had played before, or have previous training in shooting people were more concerned about having a good time than making themselves look better than everybody else.

I'd have to say that the bravest player of the night would be Scott. He bravely ran at the flag with no gun, knowing that he was most likely going to get shot (and he did by yours truly). He would have gotten it, if he hadn't accidentally grabbed the wrong side of the rope before I popped him twice.

Aside from Scott, I got one other hit before my mask fogged up so badly that I couldn't see. I see investing some money into a better mask, and possibly my own gun in the near future.

Paintballing was some of the most fun that I've had in a long time, and I've got Extreme Crossfire Paintball to thank for it. If you haven't yet, you should check them out. They've got awesome facilities with torn up buildings that are prime for hiding and defending.

If you're like me, and spend most of your time sitting on your rear end, be prepared to feel incredibly sore the next day from crouching, and commando crawling. It's well worth it, though.

We recently built for them a website (www.hillsborofreepress.com), which, if nothing else, puts their distribution well beyond the confines of Marion County.

The site averages over 100 visits a day. How about we take a look at the map and see where a lot of them are coming from. Here is a weekly Geo Map Overlay from Google Analytics to illustrate the location of visitors.

Pretty interesting cluster there, isn't it? As you can see, people as far away as Maine and California view the site.

I kinda have this really drastic approach to my thought process on non-profits or charities that I choose to support with my time or money. I am not a big fan of Band-aid solutions to problems. I think peoples time and money are better spent on actually solving problems that will make the future better and not just taking care of the next 24 hours. Anyhow Boy's and Girl's Club of Hutchinson Kansas is solving problems that are going to lead to a better future. They are affecting hundreds of kids' lives in a positive manner everyday. So I'm Scott. I just started working here yesterday, and I actually just moved here from Indiana last week. Right now I'm living in an apartment with no furniture, so working is most definitely the highlight of my day (beating out the likes of "Standing in my kitchen to eat", "Sitting in a camping chair I borrowed", and "Sleeping in a pile of blankets on my floor"). My stuff comes tomorrow, so we'll see if that holds up.

But seriously... a little about me: I came from a job in Indiana where I was doing a lot of Flash programming and database integration for a non-profit educational program, so I'm hoping I can be useful to these folks and also learn a little bit about how this kinda stuff works in the business world. I'm also looking forward to having a good time here and enjoying my work and this new place as much as possible. It sounds like there are some good projects upcoming, and it'll be fun to take them on.

Besides work, I enjoy being active. I was a sprinter in college, and I still like to jog as much as life lets me. I also am a huge sports fan. Unfortunately, I grew up on the Cubs, so I'm still dealing with that. However, the Colts winning the Super Bowl is a little bit of a consolation, and it looks like the Cubs should at least be better this year. Other than that, I watch a lot of old movies and spend a lot of time piddling around on the Internet. So... that's me.

OK I gotta vent a little.

First read this: Newswire Today Press Release

Ok the guys at MRPWebmedia (I will give them a link there and it will help their Search engine optimization!!) are exactly right and they are incredibly wrong!!

What they are right about:

1. Presentation is essential, content is King and cool websites get people talking. I paraphrased there a little. I agree with those points intensely and we handle all of our clients with those points in mind. I will go one step further and say that the crew at MRPwebmedia makes phenomenal designs and graphic presentations. I mean it, they are really good designers.

What they are completely wrong about: (I won't paraphrase here)

1. Jerry Bader, Senior Partner of MRPwebmedia say there's a better way for companies to deliver their messages and improve their bottom lines - "For some time we have been preaching the importance of delivering the marketing message and that your message should not be corrupted or distorted by techniques aimed at attracting search engine robots well driving away real people who may actually be potential customers."

It doesn't have to be corrupted there is a middle ground that accomplishes both!
Look at Underground Vaults and Storage, read Mitchell's blog here and realize that the Search Engine Optimization we do for them is leading to on average 75-90 people a day being exposed to underground Vaults and Storage services. And those people that are being exposed are there because they were searching Google, Yahoo, MSN or some other search engine for the types of services that UVS offers. And the site looks great!!!!(LogicMaze consulted for SEO on this project with UVS and Entermotion , Entermotion designed the site and did a great job.) (LogicMaze continues to perform SEo for UVS today.)

2. "Small companies are using multimedia to get the edge on their larger competitors who still have their heads buried in the search engine optimization sand".

No chance they could sell anything in a market where they compete with the likes of those corporate giants, right? Wrong! Jeepsandstuff hired LogicMaze to help them get people to their site. They knew that if people came to their site (which they built themselves in Yahoo Stores) they could offer great selection and superior customer service and make a go of competing with the big boys. Do this, go to MSN and search for Warn jeep bumpers , you don't think that does incredible things for Jeepsandstuff's ability to sell Jeep bumpers ? (They are number one and number two out of over 60,000 results if you didn't take the time to go look)

We've got things going pretty well for Ashlenz Outfitters in the deer hunting category. The site receives a great number of traffic from very specific keywords (like deer hunting) and produces a great amount of conversions. This is an amazing accomplishment, considering the competition.
